Safety is the AFI Way

Our attention to safety on the job is a significant factor in our ability to offer unparalleled fireproofing services.

Safety is the first and foremost priority at all times on every AFI site. We maintain strict adherence to established OSHA guidelines, and involve our employees in numerous professional safety training and certification programs. Our best practices cover all aspects of safety in the workplace – that’s an assurance our customers, our employees and the public will appreciate.

OSHA 30-Hour Program

All AFI employees have 30 hours of OSHA training on safety and health in the workplace. The OSHA 30-hour Construction Industry training program provides workers who have safety responsibilities with a greater depth and variety of training on safety compliance issues. Comprehensive education includes an introduction to OSHA; hazard training; managing safety and health; materials handling, use, storage and disposal; personal protective equipment; hand and power tools; scaffolds; stairways and ladders.

OSHA 500

We’re not just well-trained in workplace safety, we’re also OSHA-authorized trainers. A number of our employees are OSHA 500 trained in teaching OSHA Standards for Construction safety. Among prerequisites for this training, workers have five years of safety and health work experience in the construction industry. Special emphasis is placed on those topics that are required in the 10-hour and 30-hour classes as well as on those that are the most hazardous in the construction industry.

OSHA Hazard Communication Standard Training

All AFI employees have successfully completed education programs in compliance with the OSHA Hazard Communication Standard (HCS) on hazardous chemicals. The Standard covers hazard determination, Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and employee information and training. Training includes methods and observations to detect the presence or release of chemicals, physical and health hazards, protective measures and explanation of the SDS.

OSHA Powered Industrial Trucks (Forklifts) Certification

All AFI employees who operate forklifts do so with the confidence and experience enhanced by certified training to OSHA standards. Training is based on safe operation, familiarity with workplace hazards created by the use of forklifts and general safety requirements. Truck-related and workplace-related topics of training include forklift operation, forklift capacity and stability, surface conditions, load manipulation and pedestrian traffic.

Aerial Lift Operation

Through professional programs provided by aerial lift manufacturers, all AFI employees are extensively trained and authorized to operate all makes of aerial lifts that we employ on our worksites.

CPR Training

All AFI employees are certified in CPR.
